I am John Bredesen. Writer. Speaker. Retired IT Executive.

I write fiction, usually science fiction. I have two short story collections published and several stories in other anthologies. You can see my published fiction here and my blog here. I also have some free fiction here. There is also a writing book, called Writing into the Sunset: Starting a Writing Career after Retirement, I wrote to capture all the stuff I was learning as I started the writing journey.

I write non-fiction under the name “John A. Bredesen” (not very original, but it keeps the algorithms happily separate). After an almost 40-year career, most of which was spent as an IT leader at several manufacturing companies, I have things to say. So I wrote two IT Leadership books and post regularly over on this page. Click for more information.

Below this point are some random things to help know what I am about.

Some Basic Assumptions

  • Most people are good. Start your planning there.
  • Control your technology or it will control you.
  • Focus & Finish. Multi-tasking is a mirage.
  • Show Up. Work Hard. Learn Fast. Have Fun.
  • Doing all of this is hard and I am far from perfect.

There are thousands of self-help books out there. However, one useful self-help concept is said on every airplane flight: “Put your own oxygen mask on before assisting others.”

Me

When I leave, I don’t know
What I’m hoping to find
When I leave, I don’t know
What I’m leaving behind

The Analog Kid, Neil Peart

If the future’s looking dark
We’re the ones who have to shine
If there’s no one in control
We’re the ones who draw the line
Though we live in trying times
We’re the ones who have to try
Though we know that time has wings
We’re the ones who have to fly

Everyday Glory, Neil Peart
