Past April’s Fools

In 2009, I had my one and only good April Fool’s Day prank. There were some minor ones on our wedding day (also April 1), but my mother-in-law warned us all. That’s a story for another time.

This story starts with the building of a former employer. It was a long 4-story building with a curve to it. From our windows, you could see the entire back parking lot.

My partner-in-crime and I arrived very early to work the morning of April 1st, a Wednesday. We needed to get everything set up without being seen.

I had visited a friend at his workplace and they were having some work done which required everyone to park in a different spot. That gave me the idea.

We had printed up a bunch of notices and that morning, we raced around and put them up on the back doors only.

The notices said something like “ROOF SEALING SPRAYING TODAY. Please park away from the building.”

We got them up without being noticed and retired back to our windows to watch. Sure enough, people walked up to the door, read the notice, and then headed back to their cars to park them at the far side of the lot.

As far as I know, no one figured out it was us. But several comments were made at department and company meetings which amused us greatly.
