The cloud has enabled a lot of useful functionality in our computer systems. Our phones can do some amazing things. All requiring our stuff to go to someone else’s computers.
This is in no way an argument against using our phones or the various cloud services, but I think there is a trust issue that needs to be addressed, especially around AI.
AI is already hugely helpful and will likely become more so in the future. To become true assistants, I think more of the functionality will need to move to our personal devices.
A good helper is going to understand a lot about us and I think there will be a tendency to be a bit anxious about where all the data lives. Now, there are a lot of us, including me, that are fine using it for many things now. But I think that when a company comes out with a phone where the entire assistant AI lives on the phone, there will be more people that will jump in.
I would imagine the big companies already know this. Or maybe it’s just me and no one will care.
