This is kind of fun. A buddy of mine has been using rain water for his garden for a couple of years now. He recently added a solar powered pump.
The setup is a panel, controller, and battery he got for ~$50. The pump is a standard RV water pump.
It sits there with the battery charged most of the time. He flips it on, the pump starts, and he waters the garden (just to the right of this pic).
Simple and clever. Good stuff.
