No, this isn’t a psychological post. Well, not a sociatal one. Although, it probably says a lot about me.
When I get a new piece of tech (defined very broadly), I spend way to much time diving into its capabilities. I will explore all settings. If there is a feature I don’t see a use case for, I will intentionally try to use it to see if I’m missing something. If there is a technique that is more efficient that was I normally use, I will stop in the middle of the old way, reset, and start again using the new way.
I have spent far too much time on cars, coffee pots, and phones exploring settings and testing out things I find.
Apps and their updates are the biggest time sink. I spend far too much time exploring settings and features.
Even my car/Android Auto combination get deeply explored to see what it could do.
I think I do all this for two reasons. First, I’m just tech curious. I always want to know what is new or changed. I especially enjoy anything that can be setup and then happen automatically. Remote control kind of thing. Modes & Routines on my phone and Routines in Alexa are my most frequent experiments. I recently started with AI agents on Geminiby having it suggest, and then build a metaphorical equivalent to the Hello World task for software development.
Second, I kind of like situations where someone has a tech problem that needs solving and I have the answer. The only way to do that is to know it.
I don’t know if anyone else feels this way. I haven’t found anyone. Maybe I can create an agent to do that…
