movie poster of Heart of the Beast

Movie: Heart of the Beast

The first thing I am going to tell is a spoiler. If you read past this, it’s on you, not me. The director gives it away in the first minute of the film so I don’t feel too bad about it. The dog doesn’t die.

We like going to movies in the theater. It takes us away from all the stuff we need to do around the house. It forces us to keep our phones off. It immerses us more in the movie, letting us escape the world for a couple of hours. Large popcorn and a bottle of water and we are good to go.

This time of year, there aren’t many movies we can go to. We don’t do animation unless the grandkids are with (yes, I know we are missing out on a lot of good movies). We don’t do horror movies because, well, just no.

So we found ourselves at Heart of the Beast. It wasn’t really at the top of our list. It looked like Castaway with a dog instead of a volleyball.

But we really enjoyed it.

  • They did an awesome job with the dog, giving it a personality right from the beginning. The dog was a fully-realized character.
  • Any movie is improve by having J.K. Simmons in it.
  • The story felt realistic with no stupid moves by the characters.
  • Brad Pitt was excellent in this character.

Here is the synopsis of Heart of the Beast.
