Camping over July 4th is the perfect timing to see ladyslippers. These are pink flowers that, yes, look like slippers. Very fragile and brief, it is fun to find them. Below are a few shots from this year’s crop.
Evidently, ladyslippers take years from seedling to blooming. It is very difficult to transplant them so they don’t show up in gardens. Most are pink, but there is a white variety that has been seen around here over the years. Earlier in the year (around Memorial Day), there is a related flower, the Yellow Moccasin, that shows up. The internet tells me they are also called yellow ladyslippers, but no one in the family calls them that.
